Misguided Ruling By Refugee Board

It's no secret that Canada's refugee policy is an international joke, but the recent decision by William Davis of the The Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) to grant Brandon Huntley refugee status is outrageous. Mr. Huntley's assertion that his life would be endangered if he returned to South Africa is ludicrous. Not only does the IRB's ignorant and misguided decision encourage future bogus claims, but it is an insult to the millions of South Africans of all races who live with rampant crime.

White South Africans do not face persecution and they are not disproportionately affected by violent crime. In fact, it is South Africa's majority black population which bears the brunt of crime and violence. Should the IRB decision be allowed to stand, in the spirit of equality, all of South Africa's 42 million people must be made eligible for refugee status in Canada.
